NanoImaging Services, Inc. provides transmission electron microscope imaging services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nanotechnology industries, and specializes in the characterization of large biological molecules used in biopharmaceuticals such as vaccines, antibodies, cytokines, hormones and gene therapies. In contrast to conventional (small molecule) drugs, biopharmaceuticals are typically protein-based and manufactured in controlled, modified, biological systems. Their complexity and similarity to naturally occurring compounds makes a detailed understanding of their structure, and its relationship to their safety and efficacy, essential in their development and approval. Biopharmaceuticals represent an important and rapidly-growing segment of the pharmaceutical industry.
Imago Scientific Instruments and FEI have announced a comprehensive collaboration on the distribution and marketing of Imago’s LEAP™ product line. The alliance combines FEI’s leadership in providing tools for nanoscale exploration and discovery with Imago’s leadership in providing innovative and commercially viable atom probe technology. Imago pioneered, and is the market leader in, atom probe microscopy. Its LEAP product enables fast and comprehensive analysis of materials at the atomic scale. The LEAP technique offers the unique combination of high compositional sensitivity in the parts-per-million (ppm) range and atomic resolution imaging in three dimensions. Imago’s LEAP atom probe enhances the breadth of FEI’s offerings and compliments FEI’s current transmission electron microscope (TEM) and DualBeam™ focused ion-beam/scanning electron microscope (FIB/SEM) product lines.
FEI has selected Shimadzu Corporation, developer of analytical measuring and technology systems, as a sales agent in Japan. Shimadzu, located in Kyoto, Japan, will sell FEI® systems, including Quanta™ and Inspect™ scanning electron microscopes (SEMs) and the Quanta 200 3D small-stage DualBeam™ focused ion beam/scanning electron microscope (FIB/SEM), to its established base of customers in Japan. In addition to the FEI platforms, Shimadzu Corporation offers a wide range of products for surface analysis and measurement, including electron probe microanalyzers, scanning probe microscopes, confocal laser scanning microscopes and x-ray photoelectron spectrometers.
Malvern Instruments and FEI Company have entered into a joint development and marketing program for advanced nanoparticle analysis utilizing Malvern's particle image analysis software on FEI's line of Quanta(TM) scanning electron microscopes (SEMs). The combination delivers a powerful particle analysis solution that extends current analysis technologies for nano-sized particles.
Applied Physics Technologies specializes in thermionic and field emission cathodes, refractory materials and custom device systems. Applied Physics Technologies has facilities for growing single crystals of refractory metals, LaB6/CeB6 and transition metal carbides, as well as mounting and etching methods for cathode manufacturing. Other capabilities include vapor deposit films for various applications, including low work function coatings and nano-scale electron sources.
